D.C. Ranked ‘America’s Best City for Women’

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — If you’re a woman and you’re looking for a great place to live, it doesn’t get better than the nation’s capital, according to a report from a real estate blog.
Movoto, a blog covering the lighter side of real estate, named Washington, D.C. “America’s Best City for Women.”
The report surveyed and ranked the 100 most populous U.S. cities based on “socioeconomic factors like income and women’s health as well as some ‘fun stuff’ — shopping, personal care, and even the number of proverbial fish in the sea for single ladies who’re ready to mingle,” according to Movoto.
After all the number crunching, the District earned the top overall spot thanks to ranking in the top 25 in every category except percentage of divorced residents.
The city women should avoid the most? Wichita, Kan.
Each city was researched, surveyed and ranked using resources including Yelp and the U.S. Census based on the following six criteria:
Socioeconomic:
  • Median income for women (compared to the cost of living)
  • Percentage of single men
  • Percentage of divorced residents
Retail and services:
  • Number of women’s health physicians
  • Number of women’s clothing stores
  • Number of salons
